In February 2018, BoardSafe was informed that they were awarded a project to manufacture and install a new adaptive kayak boat launch at Nockamixon State Park in Bucks County Pennsylvania. Lake Nockamixon is a reservoir in southeastern Pennsylvania, and the largest lake in Bucks County. Tohickon Creek, Three Mile Run, and Haycock Run feed the 1,450-acre Lake Nockamixon, which is a rest stop for migrating waterfowl and a destination for boaters and anglers. Other popular activities include picnicking, swimming in the pool, hiking, biking, disc golfing, hunting, fishing, and boating.

Areas of the park have been made accessible with ADA access for individuals with disabilities. The addition of an adaptive kayak boat launch, which will include a gangway and aluminum floating with ADA features, will provide greater ease of access into a kayak, canoe or other boat for an individual who uses a wheelchair or has limited mobility.

The project was spearheaded by Friends of Nockamixon and has been underway for over three years. They raised approximately $40,000 for the project including generous donations from Shop Rite Supermarkets in Bethlehem, Hatfield, PA and Brodheadsville, PA totaling $7,000. With the money in hand, the Friends group is excited to see their hardwork come to fruition.

The adaptive kayak launch is slated to be installed in the spring of 2018 in time for the height of the boating season. Adaptive paddlers and group like Team River Runner Lehigh Valley will now have another option for events and activities in the Philadelphia area. The Lake Nockamixon adaptive boat launch is now the third in the greater Lehigh Valley area including one at Leaser Lake and one at Beltzville Lake in the Pocono Mountains area.
