Routine Maintenance Recommendations
While BoardSafe products are virtually maintenance-free, occasional checks can extend their already impressive lifespan.
LONG TERM DURABILITY AND COST SAVINGS
BoardSafe's focus on structural integrity means lower total cost of ownership. With no annual treatments or replacements, these systems are perfect for grant-funded or budget-conscious projects like parks, nonprofits, and marinas. Real-world proof: Installations from 2001 and earlier are still in daily service without repairs.
Simply rinse with fresh water and mild soap as needed to remove dirt, algae, or salt buildup. Avoid abrasive cleaners or brushes to preserve protective coatings. Aluminum and composite surfaces only require cleaning "as you see fit" — no mandatory schedule.
Periodically visually inspect for any loose stainless steel fasteners or hardware (though rare due to welded construction). Check connections for stability, especially in high-traffic areas like commercial marinas or adaptive launches.
Thanks to stainless steel fasteners and non-corrosive materials, issues like rust or decay are nonexistent. If oxidation occurs on aluminum (uncommon), a non-abrasive polish can restore shine, but this is optional for aesthetics.
BoardSafe systems are designed to endure year-round conditions, including freeze-thaw cycles, snow, and temperature fluctuations—as long as site-specific factors are considered.
Removal is not necessary if water levels remain steady and there's no ice movement (e.g., no river ice packs or draining lakes). Products can stay in the water during winter, but consult park managers and BoardSafe's sales team (610-899-0286) to assess local weather risks. Optional skid rails are available for easier seasonal removal if required.
Ensure the system is secured against floods or high winds. The plastic-encapsulated floats and aluminum frames flex and adapt without damage, but preparation for the most extreme conditions is advised.
After winter, inspect for any environmental debris, but no thawing-related repairs are typically needed due to the materials' resilience.
